The story of the SARCA boat anchor (Sand and Reef Combination anchor) started with a range of discoveries and innovations that came from the work shop of Australian Rex Francis. Rex developed the SARCA anchor over a six year period with the aid of feed back from commercial fisherman and boaties a like. The feed back from these industries trialing the SARCA anchor was vital to the success of this new revolutionary multi purpose anchor design. SARCA was a worlds first as a purposed designed combination anchor. In 1997 the SARCA was released in Australia and then some five years later released in New Zealand, SARCA has now become one of the most popular anchor designs sold in many countries.
Rex went on to manufacture large SARCA anchors anchoring vessels up to 300 hundred tons.
Other anchor manufacturers were inspired by the performance and popularity of the SARCA anchor so much so Rocna then Manson released hoop style anchors that were marketed under the umbrella of new generation anchors, the only real difference being their flukes are simply SARCA flukes turned upside down which has unfortunately made them of concave design, not convex.
Rex put hoop anchor designs on the map and feels proud to think that he had actually influenced change.
